In the case of proxied streaming there is no "best" the setting is for solving a different problem .
If there where a a "best" mode of anything there would be no setting :) as it would be default and the setting removed ..... LMS and Touch has many settings almost all of them are for for compatibility issues , there is basically no "click here for better sound quality setting" if it where the case it would again be the default mode and no setting ... Instead we have an ecossytem with a decade + worth of different hardware players all with different abilities . Not to mention possibly a dozen or so software players . The server then runs on what , at least 20 different OS ? on hardware ranging from 32 core entrerprise servers to 10yo old nas with risc cpu and 128meg of ram ? The hardware or OS migth not support all the transcoding options . Some weird web radio stations call for the install of optional transcoder software too and plugins . This calls for a system where you have to have a lot of options . So that you can make it work with all the possible corner cases . As for the often missunderstood file types settings (excuse the tread drift) this is not for optimising sq its for fixing problems . So sometimes "best" is not the question . However , for more specific questions there can be some optimisations possible BEST QUALITY FOR WEB RADIO : The way to optimise here is to actually find the channels with the best sound-quality , this is much more important than anything you do locally on your system . Some web radio can sound terrific :) yess . But most of it has such low basic sound quality that , it does not matter anymore what you listen with , any squeezebox or any DAC with whatever setting you please may not be a bottleneck here . Here you try to find a better channel with similar music . What is your favourite music ? maybe there is a place for discussion of the best available radio for that kind of music , there are some users here that spends a lot time listening to web radio . -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
