Oh dear great all-knowing duo listers, lend me your ear...
i have this Duo 270c that i recently put a 280c motherboard in, then
installed OS 8.0. it had some trouble starting up, then it started
working decently enough that i went for the 8.1 update. now it won't
startup, you can hear the drive start cranking with the happy mac
face up, and then it quits cranking, and sits and whirrs with the
happy mac face on the screen. it will boot up from the CDRom off of
the 8.0 CD with the 4-finger salute (i've got it down to three) but
not the C key, and i've tried Disk First Aid, Techtool 1.2.1, disk
warrior 1.1. tried down-dating the disk driver back to 8.0,
extensions off, all tests come back A-ok. and everytime it's the
same: boots up "normal", drive starts to crank (that's the sound it
makes, fast cranking) and then it stops.
based on early experience with this computer i suspect that the drive
is bad. i'm just giving it the old "college try" (who ever made that
up?).
anyone have a drive to sell? don't need a very large one, perhaps
you've upgraded yours lately? write to me offlist.
