Can this be fixed by cleaning the keyboard ?
Mad Dog >>
I've fixed a few by disassembling the entire unit and CAREFULLY cleaning the
contacts around the key post. I've got a little "eraser" type unit which is
actually a non-dust generating contact cleaner which works nicely. Sorry, no
name on it...had it for years. An eraser may work if you clean the unit VERY
well with something like isopropyl alcohol and let it dry thoroughly. Rev. E
and F seem to respond better, the older KB's rarely are salvageable. Pop all
keys off...(make sure you know how they go back ON!), peel off the grey
rubber "skin" just below. This has the contacts around the keypost (clean
these w/alcohol and a swab). Next, you have two sheets of clear mylar
containing the two sides of the keyboard matrix. Clean the semi-circles
around each keypost. Just a good buff is needed. If any of the "lands"
(little silver coloured runs going to each post) are broken, you will have a
tough time repairing it unless you have the special "paint" to repair such
lands. Reassemble after cleaning off any debris/dust/Jolt Cola/coffee/etc
and then test.
Or just buy a new one!
Ciao!
Andrew
