A Duo list is seems a dumb place to rant.

I just finished reading an OSX article in MacWorld which made a good point.
Apple released the OSX "BETA" to anyone who wants it so they can get
feedback from the people who really use the Mac. The power-users. Who else
could run it through the ringer and show no mercy. Who else would be that
brave.

Have you told Apple what you think? They set up an area on their site just
for this. I doubt they'll be looking in this list for our feedback.

I've been using the Mac since 1989 and consider myself a power user. Frankly
I don't have time to worry about all the underpinnings of the OS as long as
it works right. I would use Windows...if...they...had...(uunnggh, sorry, I
just felt a little faint after saying that) done it right.

I want a powerful, stable, dependable machine and I don't much care what's
at the heart of the OS as long as it provides what I need. Having helped
many Mac owner/users over the years with training, troubleshooting and
consulting I feel it's safe to say that over 90% of those users wont even
realize (or care) what's under the hood as long as it gets them where
they're going. And if it breaks down less, they'll be even more happy with
their Mac.

>> From what I've heard, it sounds like os

Duh. It's a beta. It's a beta. It's a beta so users still need to use their
applications and such. With OSX BETA installed you are not left in the
lurch. You can actually switch between OS9 & OSX without restarting! So you
can still "BETA TEST" and get on with real life needs. Since there are no
OSX compatible applications available there has to be some way to run your
classic applications.

Hence the need for large amounts of RAM. It takes a lot to BETA TEST one
operating system while still being able to have your original OS9 available.
This is why OSX beta, BETA (did I mention beta) requires 128MB RAM.

Frankly, after I read the article on OSX B-E-T-A I was amazed at how great
an effort Apple went to make this as painless as possible for a BETA test.
When you install it your OS( is still completely intact.

>> It is simply A BSD Unix kernel and shell,

What the hell is that? Don't tell me. I don't care. Will it make my Mac
better once it is out of BETA? I hope so. I hear Unix is supposed to be a
wonderfully stable OS. If that's the case, it can only serve to make the Mac
better. IMHO!

I do have to commend you though, Carpman, on being brave enough to BETA test
OSX. I just hope rants will be turned into objective feedback that Apple
will listen to.
