Any bent contacts in the book? Unplug it before you go poking around in there don't want to short it out. But check to see if all the contact leads are out and not squashed! This a new battery where did you get it? My old battery died, presumed shorted, after a screw came loose inside the powerbook (now fixed, of course). I have a brand new battery now, but it was a fair while in transit. When I insert the battery, it is briefly recognised (as empty), but no "lightning" charging symbol shows, then a half a second later the 2400 can no longer recognise the battery.
