For the record, the Duo is *off* when the green LED is on and lit 
solid. When you hit the power switch and the light goes off, it 
indicates that the Duo is on and trying to start up (and failing in 
this case). The meaning of the solid LED is simply that the power 
manager has been completely reset and will be restored the next time 
you manage to reboot the Mac OS. This also applies to later non-Duo 
Powerbooks, and possibly to the 500 series.

I'm not sure whether a Powerbook can recharge a battery while the 
power manager is in that state (solid LED), but it probably can't, 
since it lacks the instructions to know how. That's likely the main 
reason for having a light that indicates user action is required 
(booting the OS).
