Can you say "returning to our roots"? Who quoted Jobs in 1984 stating
that no computer needs a hard drive? Floppies are just fine for our
customers -- they'll never need a hard drive. Then, along comes the SE.
Who needs a fan -- heat will not be an issue. Seems the more things
change, the more they stay the same in spooky ways (Lets see how those
power supplies hold up after two years -- personally, I'm looking forward
to Pina resurrecting the Dead Mac Scrolls, or maybe we'll write it this
time).

Don't get me wrong. I like repairing things. I also like novel
computers. I also like Apple products -- but the Cube is too expensive
for what you get compared to a G4/400 or 450. Most of my clients want to
be able to slap in an Adaptec card so they can have real scsi devices and
not some usb/scsi adapter that "may work". Most of my customers want
what the duo's/2400 offered, with perhaps the addition of a cd/dvd drive.

Then again, I've got a counterpart here in town who askes me questions
about how I repair duos and manage all the small parts -- 'cuz he is
repairing viaos at a fair clip. Seems if you want it small, the
engineers will find ways of cutting weight/corners which compromise the
longevity of the beastie... which may explain why the larger laptops may
appear more "rugged" in the long run. I hope that is not the case, and
like all of you, I want a subnotebook with a Gx chip in it. Yet, we
remain a small minority.
