I have a 280c and it tends to run from 103 to 123 degrees F depending on
how I'm using it. One thing that will keep it running hotter is if
Processor Cycling is not checked in the Powerbook Control Panel. I have
discovered that Battery Amnesia will turn off (uncheck) Processor
Cycling and leave it that way after it finishes its work.

I also discovered, after using my duo 280c for a year, that the foam
heatsink pad that goes between the 68lc040 chip and the stiffener was
missing! I bought the duo used and someone before me had removed it or
not replaced it when working inside it. Anyway, I simply used a small
amount of plumbers putty to do the job. It is just something I had that
I could form into the proper size and shape, and it can take the heat,
and hopefully transfer heat away from the chip better than the air. But
in all honesty, the putty only seemed to help cool it a few degrees if
at all. Hard to compare without removing it and doing a controlled test
which I am too lazy to do.
