Thanks to all who sent their sympathy cards. After a tortuous afternoon, evening and this morning, I gave up and shipped my machine to DT&T. I did EVERYTHING on all the postings I found on the subject, and while I did get the machine to boot correctly ONCE (which gave me enough time to back up everything and sync my Newton with it), it froze after about five minutes, and I was not able to revive it. As much as I hate to spend the money to have it fixed, I spent far more time yesterday than the value of the repair, so I am crying uncle. I only hope that DT&T will work their magic quickly. I was hoping to hold out with my 2400 for about three more months, just to see if the rumored new PB is a sub-portable. Y'know, kind of a portable Cube? Anyway, when I get my machine back, I'll post an update. Personal note to Marc Sira, I would be interested in the physical fix that you were able to do, since I may keep that in the stable if I am lucky to have a next time.
