Thanks to everyone who responded, on and offlist, to my SOS about a
Dock-less Duo and a flashing question mark on startup. After being
bailed out by someone from the Middle Georgia MUG who had a Duo 230 and
a Dock, I now have paid my membership dues and joined up. And thanks to
Edward Mocarski on this list for getting me a floppy adapter and drive
so I at least have a way to boot externally in an emergency.

Now I have what is probably a dumb question. I purchased a 28-meg RAM
module on eBay to increase my 2300s base RAM from 20 to 48 MBs. It was
easy to remove the keyboard, but when I tried to install the module, I
ran into some problems. The expansion module has a white plastic
connector on the left side. When you open up the Duo, is there supposed
to be another white plastic connector already there on the logic board?
Thats what I found on my computer, but for the life of me, I cant
figure out a way to fit the two connectors together. My Duo 2300 is the
1.1 gig/20 MB configuration. I had assumed the 20 megs were soldered to
the logic board, but now Im wondering if perhaps there were eight megs
of base RAM, and Apple installed a 12-meg module that I now have to
remove. Does anybody know if thats a correct assumption. If so, how do
I remove the module? Its fixed in there tightly.

If you know any more about this than I do, Id appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Nancy
