Hi there, sorry for the off-topic post, but you folks might be able to help me here. I recently purchased a WorkGroup Server 8550/200. Last night I put a RailGun G3 upgrade in it that I normally use in my PowerTower Pro. I screwed something up, because I got a loud crack and a burnt smell from the machine. I assumed the worst and figured that I had smoked the Motherboard or Processor. However, the processor still runs in the PowerTower. Also, I sniffed (literally) around the case and determined that the only part of the machine that smells burnt is one corner of the power supply. I very carefully opened the power supply trying to avoid electrocution from a rogue capacitor, and there is a heavy duty fuse in there, but i can't tell if it might be smoked. Also, the smell seems to be from a different part of the PS. now the questions: 1.) Is it likely that the Power Supply is smoked? Or is it more likely the motherboard? The machine will not even power with the original 604e in it. 2.) If so, does anyone think it might be relatively easy to fix the PS? 3.) Does anyone on the list live in Miami who could run over to my place and quickly solder in news parts and fix this? 4.) does anyone on the list have a replacement powersupply? Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to know if I have a dead Motherboard. In that case I will have a bunch of 32MB FPM DIMMS to sell. The bright side is that I got the machine for a great price and can sell the RAM (234MB!!) and the Adaptec Dual U2W (Two external, Two internal connectors!) for about what I paid, even if I did smoke the motherboard. Tom PS: I will atone for my off-topic sin by posting about my dead 2400c in a moment.... ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
