Folks, After spending much time and resources to get a working Duo, I'm now thinking about getting something a bit faster than my 2300c. I still have an issue with the 2300c in that I can't dim the screen, which doesn't help when running on batteries. But my main concern is the speed, and the display limitation. I used a 280c a little bit before, and thought that going to a 2300c would help. It's somewhat faster, but not a lot. I realize that the PPC 603 at 100Mhz is somehow a PPC601 at 60Mhz. In addition, the display is very restrictive. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm also using a Blue & White G3 at 400Mhz, 448MB of RAM, 30GB + 9GB + 4GB + 6GB internal hard disks, so I became spoiled... Anyway, I guess I'd like to hear what you guys have to say. I'm not in a market for a new PowerBook, but I'm starting to look for a first generation G3 or a fast 3400. If I could get a good deal, that would be attractive. I've paid $177 for the Duo, then bought a 48MB memory card for $197, then added a 4.3GB hard drive for $77, and finally a 8x CD-ROM for another $77. The 2 Type IV battries at +$100 each. I don't talk about all the pieces I had to buy, like a new video cable, since the original one on the 2300c was almost broken, bottom case, etc. Total cost: $728. I could have got a nice 3400 for that price, maybe a G3. I'd like to switch to a 2400, but they're not a viable option if you add a G3 accelerator. On the Mac2400 site, there are a few 2400 for sale. I don't know if the guys are disconnected from reality, but the cheapest one (without a G3) is $950 and the most expensive one is $1300. How can you justify paying such a price when the local Circuit City where I am an Apple Demo Days rep is offering 1st generation iBook for $849??? Anyway, what do you think, guys? -Laurent. -- ===================================================================== Laurent Daudelin Developer, Multifamily, ESO, Fannie Mae mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Washington, DC, USA ********************** Usual disclaimers apply ********************** "Heuristics are bug ridden by definition.
