I liked OS8.6 on my 2300 because of the additional functionality it offered
such as Sherlock's search. Of course it hogs more RAM but it sounds like you
have plenty.
Just make sure you disable all the extensions that waste RAM and are not
utilized by the 2300 such as the ones for USB and all those sprockets etc
(whether they're hogging memory or not it's still a clutter).
