Probably the finder bits for your files are not set right so that the
finder no longer detects they have custom icons. Use Norton,
FileBuddy or similar utility to repair the wrong-set bundle bits,
dates, etc... and make sure FileBuddy tells you about the custom
icon. Then restart and rebuild desktop.
