I finally had a window of time where, if I screwed up the opening of the duo 2300, I could manage being down for a few days. Thanks to many who have discussed this before and especially Tom Rymes and his web site of instructions and pictures <http://homepage.mac.com/duopage/hardware/caseopen.html>. Very helpful, especially in conjunction with the 2300 Take Apart service manual. Here are some of my experiences and comments. 1. Overall: disassembly/assembly was much easier than I expected. After procrastinating due to intimidation, I now have no inhibition about doing it again. 2. Keypad Cables: It wasn't obvious to me that the ribbon cable slides out of the connector. I spent some time trying to gently remove the connector itself, fortunately unsuccessfully. Then, one of my problems in the disassembly/assembly process was getting the ribbons back in all the way. 3. Having it disassembled, I can now understand better the comments previously posted. a) why a 17mm drive won't fit with the adaptor brackets than attach to the bottom of the drive. b) why a longer bracket with drive mounting holes at the 3" separation won't work - the frame has indentations to accommodate the screw heads; in the 3" separation position the screw head make the drive to wide to fit. 4. The original 750MB drive had a jumper on the outer set of pins. I installed the jumper on the new drive. MISTAKE: that is the slave position on the new drive. 5. I made a temporary 5 sided "cradle" out of cardboard (the backing of a pad of paper) which snugly secures the drive and protects the cable pins from contacting the frame. The drive doesn't seem to get hot, but I am concerned with heat/ventilation with this set up; but in the dock it seems ok for testing purposes. 5. I think I will sell my 8GB drive and get one of the MCE drives instead. 6. It is REALLY NICE to have the larger drive space! Hope this helps someone else.
