I'm not sure of the exact names of the extensions you need to have 
enabled, but there is a universal installer from Apple that should 
fix your problems. I believe the name of the file is "Express Modem 
Updater 3.0" - at any rate if you search the Downloads section of 
Apple > Support you should find it. Drag all the above mentioned 
extensions to the trash (don't empty it - in case something goes 
wrong), restart, then run the installer. It should install all the 
files you need and nothing more. I had to do this to get my modem 
drivers back after a forced reformatting of my 280c.

P.S. I was considering the same modem upgrade - how much trouble was 
it to install the new modem?
