I'm sorry you have a bad attitude towards The Mac 512 User Group.

Lets take your "beefs" as you dished them:

MUG's top priority is money - This is not true of The Mac 512 User Group.
98% of the disk images and other software are free to download. I don't
have advertising banners in every nook and cranny to pay for the web server
and other costs. I am providing a service with diskettes to those who
cannot create disk images on their own. Clearly not a money making scheme.

Mac512UG won't teach you how to use System 7.1 installer - Good suggestion!
I have included this as a page available in the System Showcase area and the
System Software Download Area. Please don't hold back and directly suggest
ways to make The Mac 512 User Group work better for you. I have been
waiting for months for suggestions on what the user group members want. I
have received a few responses (under 5) and none from you Paul.

A little investigation will tell people that any set of System 7.1 will work
to install some Duo models. Most people have common sense and use it. I
should not have to read minds to guess what people need to be told. I hope
we don't live in a society that needs to be told what is good for them or
how to live their lives. People come to The Mac 512 User Group to learn, and
they do.

Netscape 2.02 crashes - There is a Text based navigation index page. There
is a link to it on the main page in the top left corner at www.mac512.com.
Other pages have a text based navigation bar somewhere on the page.
Unfortunately I cannot achieve 100% compatibility with all of the old
browsers, however I try to. And I test the page against them. Netscape 2.02
works great with a JavaScript error. The pages and graphics load correctly
on my testing system. Perhaps there is a problem with your Netscape browser?
My Netscape 2.02 works on my Macintosh LC III with The Mac 512 & The Mac 512
User Group web site with 99% accuracy!!

Stuffit 5 - Good suggestion! Please suggest this to me instead flaming me
over a mailing list. What you put into a user group is what you get out, no
input - no tailored help. I don't own the Stuffit software, Aladdin does
and I must comply with their wishes. Aladdin did not let me post the
Expander originally and I had to link to their web site. I now have a link
to the older version of Expander. I am glad Aladdin has it available!

Internet web kit - This was donated by a few members as a way they felt it
would be easier for a new user to obtain and load and get on the Internet.
No once has suggested to place the directions on the site without
downloading the kit. Now that you did I have placed them on the page as a
link so you and others can read them without downloading the whole kit. The
Kit is a starting point. No where is it said you have to use only the
components included with the kit.

The information text file explains how to setup a typical Internet setup
under System 6. The fourth newsletter from 1999 showed you how to setup a
System 7.x connection and my experience with setting up System 7.1 to
connect to the Internet. Other newsletters and web page articles shows or
describes to members how to do many other things. I need input from members
so I can tailor the information to their needs. Otherwise I have to guess.

Hidden agenda - I don't know about other user groups, The Mac 512 User Group
has no business or hidden agenda. It is a group run by a vintage Mac User
for other vintage and new Mac users. We have no advertising banners and
other waste of screen estate with money making schemes. The only way we are
asking for financial assistance is by providing a service for those who have
no way to create certain disk images. Did you see that 98% of all disk
images and other software are free to download without cost? Trust me,
making and selling diskette images is no way to support a family. It is a
way to help support a free user group. There is no mandatory fee like other
user groups, and they are other useful resources available from The Mac 512
User Group then just downloadable software.

Other free web sites - Posting certain versions of System Software or pieces
of System Software from Apple without prior permission is illegal and
non-ethical. Posting any free System Software versions should be done with
Apple's permission as well. Gamba has a nice web site & resource, even
though a few of this warez he offers directly from his FTP area could be
perceived as piracy under copyright law. I know Gamba is an ethical person
from talking and dealing with him before. I am sure no harm or ill attempt
is perceived. Without Apple's permission he is running a risk that Apple
may step in and declare an infringement on their copyrights. Remember Apple
owns their software, we do not!

The Mac 512 User Group does and will hold your hand if you ask. The Mac 512
User Group is finding ways to help everyone in preserving the old Apple
Macintosh applications and System software.

I still don't understand why you dislike The Mac 512 User Group when you
have not e-mailed me any ideas on how to make the group work for you.

Thanks for your time Paul and everyone else's time on this matter!!

G.
