I appreciate your help. I was pretty sure that it was the LCD itself,
or at least the electronics that connect to it. I am a camera
repair technician, and I have worked with LCD panels, in cameras and
they have the connection to the flex via a rubberized conductor pad,
and these sometimes become dirty, or malformed, and you will lose part
of your display. When I disassembled the panel, I saw that everything
was soldered with no real way to redo the connections. The screen is
not dim, so from what you say I will assume that the invertor is O.K.
Powerbookguy.com wants 39.95 for a new passive greyscale screen, so I
may hold out and see if I can get an active matrix greyscale, or
either a passive color, or active color depending on the price.
