Hi Dean,

I have a 1400 but I've not had the problem you mention.

You may try Zapping the PRAM which, on the PB1400, also resets the Power
Manager. To do it correctly on a 1400 you have to shut it down (not
restart). From the off condition just hit the power key and immediately
after you hear the chime, hold down the P, R, option & command keys
simultaneously. Once you here the start up chime again, release the keys.
Don't hold for several chimes like you might on a desktop Mac or other
PowerBook. The PB1400 is an odd bird.

Note, if the 1400 shuts down (which the often do) after you zap then you
need to power it up via the power button on the back. It's between the ADB
and serial ports.

Other than this I'm not sure what to suggest. Let me know what happens
though.
