The Digigram card is very cool and can be had at guitar center for around
$500. But in my experiences the audio out on most powerbooks, and mac's in
general is more than sufficient for the use you're talking about.
I have used the mac's internal audio to do multi track recording
for several years now with great results. The only negative thing I can say
about the powerbooks is that the signal to noise is a little higher than the
desktops, but again not unusable.
