On my PB2400c/240, everything is faster with 8.6. And I don't use Ram
Doubler any more because, although others may disagree, I think the 8.6
Virtual Memory is better. The screen size is small on the 2400 and so the
ability to resize the Finder columns is one I find particularly useful.
Applescript is MUCH faster than on 8.1 and really useful. But the thing
which really impressed me was the improved power management. I get a good
20 minutes more out of the battery with 8.6.
And I tell my pc challenged friends/clients to send me Word docs in RTF
or text and there is no problem opening them and saving them in the same
format on MarinerWrite.
MW, by the way, is very fast and has all the features which I need in a
word program. I can't speak for you as I don't know what your needs are.
It is somewhat similar to Word 4, which I used for years and really
liked. It's a pity it doesn't work any more. MS has this great (for them)
idea of making it so that previous versions don't work on System
upgrades. The fact that this is common in industry (parts designed to
wear out after a few years forcing people to buy a new car instead of
replacing a part) doesn't make it good.
