Today, I tripped over the powercord to my 2400 partially yanking it out of
the wall and pulling the PowerBook a couple of inches across a table, but not
yanking the cord connector out of the back of the PowerBook. When I cranked
the computer up I noticed that the battery indicator in the menu bar showed a
completely discharged battery with an X through it. I don't know if my
graceful move is in any way related to the battery problem but they happened
at about the same time.

I removed the battery and reinserted it. For about 4 seconds after
reinserting the indicator showed a discharged battery with no X. I never got
a lightning bolt. It then reverted back to a discharged battery with an X.
Computer will not run on battery at all. It will run properly with the power
adapter inserted. These exact conditions are reproducible all of the time
except as regards the GLOD (below).

As I've been troubleshooting this I have intermittently had the Green Light
of Death when the battery was inserted, but which goes away when the power
cord is inserted and the power manager button is pressed on the back.
Earlier I pressed the button for about five minutes and waited about an
additional ten to twenty minutes with the battery removed and the power
disconnected before the GLOD went away. Since then, I am no longer getting
the GLOD at all.

I have also noticed that when I insert the battery a nearby radio has static,
but the static goes away when the battery is removed.

Question - could yanking the power adapter the way I did have caused this
somehow (it works flawlessly on the power adapter), or do I have a bad
battery? Could I have a bad PRAM battery? Power card? (I've had two power
cards replaced in the past.)

If it is a bad battery (it's the original - 3 1/2 years old) are these
available anywhere anymore, or am I out of luck?

My luck -- my poor little abused 2400 about to give up on me-- my new
Titanium PowerBook somewhere on an assembly line in Taiwan.
