I've been talking about my 2400c on another list today and posted the following, but I thought some duolister's would like to have a peek too. ------------------------------------------------------------------ For those that wanted to see it I have the green 2400c's lid basking on the chuckcam today. <http://www.forest.net/cams/> How it was done: After the case was finished with its seven or so coats of the metallic green Pactra paint, I cured it atop my monitor for several days. Then when the paint was good and hard I covered the lid with a high quality masking tape. Using an X-acto knife I cut out the tree logo* shape to create a mask. Since I had used pretty thick industrial grade masking tape when I sprayed the next color in it created a raised affect. After three coats of a light green I started mixing the metallic green back in while the paint was still wet. This way, when it dried and I removed the mask it just looked like a raised portion of the lid. But the lighter green was revealed as I sanded the lid. It became sort of a halo effect with lighter green around the edges of the tree. There are a few flaws in it, and I will most likely do it again with my other 2400 just to get it perfect. One of my staff calls it a '20mph paint job'... in other words, fine if you don't look too closely. For example I filled in the place where a small metal rainbow Apple laid in the center of the lid. The filler used was a vinyl spackle material that took longer than I could wait to dry completely.... even curing over a hot monitor or inside my old Sun disk array. It continued to shrink after I began painting and is now sort of a sore spot in the upper left branches of the tree. There is also a spot where I over-sanded a bit just to the right of the printed circuits. None of this is visible on the webcam though. I'll try and leave it up all day. *I designed the logo back in 1994 when my friend started this company. He couldn't *pay* me for that, and some other work I did at the time, so instead I took a share in the company. One of the smarter moves I ever made... I hope. =) --chuck goolsbee geek wrangler, digital.forest inc, bothell, wa <http://www.forest.net> list mom, mac-mgrs mailing list... <http://www.mac-mgrs.org> ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
