Nope, just sanded the daylights out of the plastic and started with green.

>You can usual get away with two coats of silver and then two coats.
>You realy need to give a day to cure between coats.

Every coat had a full day to cure... lying in front of
'coffeetable.forest.net' which is my old Sun MassStorage array. Fired
up and blowing hot air created by 3 full trays of 5 1/4" Full Height
Drives. =)

But I wanted a *thick* mask - to have raised edges around it... so I
could sand them down for the halo effect. Thick of course is a
relative term when you are talking paint...

I was rushed to have it done in time for MacWorld SF... where it
acted as geek-bait in our booth. =)

The lid was done between the week after xmas up until the night
before I flew to SF. That was still about 10 days of work... but next
time I will take the time to do it perfect. I look at this one as a
prototype.

...of course Jobs upstaged me with an even cooler powerbook the
second day of the expo! If they get it down to a reasonable size I
may have to change my priorities. =)

>Spakle? You used spakle?

Well not really 'spackle' per se... just some vinyl epoxy filler
material. I used the term to indicate it's 'hole filling' task. It
*is* the right stuff, I just didn't give it enough time to set before
I sanded it down flat.

I left the lid for last and payed for it. I knew it would be the
hardest part, so I wanted have the leeway to learn a bit in the rest
of the case first. Oh well. As I said it was a prototype. Now I
*know* how to do it for the 'finished product.'

>I love the logo and it's look on the 'Book. Nice job!

Thanks!

...and thanks for the advice - both during and after the project.
