It was my first thought too. I'm definitely sure this is the problem with my PB540 : no startup when on batteries because of the dead PRAM-battery. I can see the logic that the same would apply for the duos. I suppose it fails to startup because it uses power from the PRAM-battery for the initial boot sequence... to power the soft-power-on circuitry... I don't know.
