Actually, Battery Recondition does require that you have the AC adapter
plugged in while it's running. Odd but true.
there is a nice little shareware app called Battery Amnesia that will
totally drain the battery and requires that the AC NOT be plugged in. When
it runs, it prevents the PowerBook from going to sleep when it detects that
the battery is going into reserve power. It also keeps the drive spinning
and the screen at full brightness to aid in depleting the battery. I believe
it runs on all PowerBooks. I've used it on a PB140/OS7 & my PB1400/OS9.
