Thanks to all who offered suggestions to my Duo 230 startup problems. I
reset the power manager at least twice, but noticed no difference. I tried
leaving the Duo on all night for several nights, but I was a little worried
here, because it seemed to shut itself off sometime before dawn. This
happened whether it was set to "screen dim" and "spin down HD" or not. I do
not think it was sleeping, because it would not wake up...only pressing the
back button would rouse it.
After days of keeping the Duo on, shutting down at various intervals and
testing startup, I find that I can leave it shut down for about 3 hours, and
the power button will start it up again. Longer than that requires the back
button. The date, time, 32-bit addressing, and mouse controls all work fine
now, and retain their settings with no problem. They would not when I first
got it.
My question now is, am I hurting the Duo by using the back switch to start
it up rather than the keyboard power button? Does anyone have any other
suggestions to offer?
While I'm asking questions, my screen brightness and contrast buttons do not
seem to work. Just how hard do you have to push them in? Also, what exactly
is the difference between sleep and shut down? Would it hurt anything to put
the Duo to sleep all the time instead of shut down, since the power button
on the keyboard seems to work when waking it, but not to start it up after
being shut down for the night.
Thanks,
Janice
