>I'm trying to decide if a 2400 will do the job for me. Dear Ron: I have used my 2400c for about two years now and remain quite happy with it. I do the following on my 2400c I run Now Up to Date Contact and syncing both with my Palm via IrDA. I also sync Now Up To Date with the Now Server on a G4 I set up in the office to sync the calendars of everyone else. Haven't had a problem in this area for over a year. I use AppleWorks 5.0 for basic word processing and use Microsoft Office 98 for more complex word processing and for linking with Excel. Again I have had absolutely no problems. I use Claris Emailer 2.03 and am very happy with it. I send and receive a fair amount of email, am on six different lists which Emailer Mail Action Manages, and maintain four different email lists with other 30 persons each which I use weekly. I also facilitate two professional listservs, only occasionally having to go to the web to manage them. I am very pleased with emailing using Claris Email 2.03 with my 2400c. I do some browsing on the Web; mostly professional and research information and visiting Mac sites. I do just fine use a GV 56K Powerport PC Card. I also use a Gv Platinum Pro 28k/Ethernet card a lot which I actually find nearly as fast at the GV 56K Card and as fast as the 56K modem in the original iMac I have at home. I use the ethernet card to connect to my iMac and to computers in my office on ethernet. No problems I use the 2400c to maintain and edit digital photos using CompactFlash cards via the PC Slot and Photoshop 4.0. I do newsletters with Pagemaker 6.5. I print at home using a USB inkjet and a USB PC Card. All without a problem. In response to your questions I answer those I can: How big a deal is the small screen? Sometimes it is a problem especially using photoshop and Pagemaker. I use an external monitor for more detailed work. Items in 600 X 800 can appear small. How big a deal is the small keyboard? None for me. I thought it would be a problem, but with the scissor action keys I have fewer errors than I do on a full size keyboard. I find it the best keyboard I have used. I have no interest in replacement? How important is the 80 Meg ram barrier? For me it has never been a problem.I run two or three of the above mentioned programs at the same time and have never run out of memory? An additional bit of information. I have my drive partitioned to run 8.6 for much of my work and 9.04 for some web work and for using itools and iDisk. I also have a G3 320 processor and a cardbus upgrade from MCE. All of this has been problem free. The only problem I have experienced is a burned out display bulb which led m into a FedEx nightmare, but that is another story. If you find a good machine I do not believe you can go wrong with a 2400c. Stan Bratton ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
