I find this interesting.  I have often thought that standard lithium 
3v coin cells should work, and would be easier to come by.  We sell 
them at my shop for use as data batteries in cameras.  However, when I 
made a battery pack (closely following the polarity) they started 
overheating in my 520c and I quickly yanked them.  Does your backup 
pack have two or three leads?
