Before Apple folded PPP into Remote Access there was a
system called Open Transport PPP which handled the PPP
connection. With 7.5.5 you may need to download the
following items from Apple's software site if you
don't already have them:
Geoport & ExpressModem Updater 3.0 - final release of
the ExpressModem software for 68K Duos. Installs
extensions and Express Modem control panel for
operating the ExpressModem
Open Transport 1.1.2 - final revision of the Open
Transport software for Mac OS prior to 7.6. Installs
various Open Transport libraries for AppleTalk and
TCP/IP, plus AppleTalk and TCP/IP control panels. On
most Macs must already have OT 1.1 or 1.1.1 installed
to update.
Open Transport/PPP 1.0 - installs additional Open
Transport libraries for modem and Remote Access, modem
CCL files, plus Modem and PPP control panels.
The setup is pretty much like recent versions of
Remote Access, except the PPP control panel does the
functions of the Remote Access control panel. Use
Express Modem control panel to make your telecom
settings and turn the modem on and off (it uses a bit
of battery power as long as it's on). Choose "Internal
Modem" and "Geoport/Express Modem" in the Modem
control panel. Enter your ISP's info in the TCP/IP
control panel. Enter your POP info in the PPP control
panel and use it for dialing. I think that's all the
important stuff; there are a lot of options, as there
are in Remote Access.
