When I was helping to run a couple of the Mac Forums over on CompuServe, one of the better ideas we came up with was the one we proposed to folks who wanted a better way to handle NetScape's cache. Our solution was to use the Disk Copy Application to create a new "read-write" disk image folder, calling it something like -- "NS _Cache " (your choice, what you call it). You can assign any size you want to it ( mine is 5 MB) and after it is created, drag it to the "Startup Items" in the System Folder. That way, each time you start, the NS Cache is created on the Desktop and you can click to access for periodic cleaning out. It does not dump the cache each time the computer is shut down, like with a RAM Disk, which is one of the reason the browser writers created "cache" -having those pages 'stored' is supposed to speed up the browser, right? You select "NS_Cache À " in the Preferences of the browser , as you would with a RAM disk, to keep the pesky little caches from building up in the browser's Preferences. Maybe some of you really want to flush the Cache every time you shut down, but doing so defeats the purpose of having 'cache' in the first place.
