The only reliable useful webmail service I've used is the one attached to
my university unix account - it's the infinite interchange interface and I
find it quite useable (although I also check my my with pine and use Eudora
from home to collect/store messages)
The best method I've seen for avoiding relayed mail is to have the smtp
server refuse to send anything that doesn't have a return address to a
registered user on the service - authentication can be put on top of this
if nescesssary, but isn't usually a problem - I currently use 2 smtp server
which use variations on this (one only requires the return address, the
other is internal uni mail and requires the destination and return address
to be internal)
