Group:

What we have here is a 'failure to communicate.'

I just got a Linksys DSL 4-port router so I could surf our new DSL connection
using my 2400c w/GV combo card and my wife could use her iMac. We both run
MacOS 8.6.

Here's the catch: While her connection has worked flawlessly from the get-go
(as it had before we got the router), I cannot get the 2400c to connect
reliably, most times not at all, to the router.

And sometimes I can get the Chooser/Appleshare (on the 2400) to show her
computer and I can share files, and other times it doesn't show up, yet other
times it does show up, but when I click on her computer's name in the Chooser
window, the connection doesn't happen, as her computer 'cannot be found.'

I upgraded the Linksys to the latest firmware (I don't really know if that
was a problem, but what the heck) and programmed it as per instructions. I
upgraded the GV combo card to the latest firmware...yet still no dice.

Tried DHCP in TCP/IP control panel. The TCP/IP doesn't recognize the router,
and DHCP does not issue a number to the laptop. Nope (this works fine on the
iMac). Manual addressing...still no.

Oh, yes, Appleshare works perfectly between the two computers when I use a
simple crossover cable....

The combo card has worked well for me in the past, with another ethernet
network (using Apple's Ethertalk, not TCP/IP). The modem has been stellar.

But with the router setup, no. I tried 3 different (non-crossover) cables,
including the one that works just fine between the router and the iMac, and
no luck, nada.
:-(

So, is it the router?
The combo card?
The 2400c?
Software setup? ( I tried to set things the same with both computers)

Those are all the clues. Suggestions?

Spent all day yesterday, and don't have so much time to give today. Really
would like to solve this one!! Where's Brandy when you need her?
