At the risk of getting off topic,
- Emailer is still the only email application I know of that can also
access AOL.
- If you need STMP authentication, check out Baton Mail to augment Emailer
<http://www.mythtech.net>
- that leaves the only reason to not use Emailer (other than
habits/familiarity with another email client) is if you want to be able
to read html messages in the email client.
The latter is becoming increasingly prevalent, and will eventually force
the issue.
I tried to go back to Eudora, primarily because of the ease of backing up
multiple files vs one big database, but couldn't stand the interface.
(Perhaps I was to turned off by the sponsored interface interference on a
9.5" screen.)
I tried Outlook Express - a worthy successor to Emailer, but it wasn't
worth the learning curve (including the applescripts for processing and
archiving).
Entourage (essentially Outlook Express bundled with Office 2001) will
probably be the next evolution for me, when I upgrade the hardware
(currently Duo 2300, 24MB RAM + Ramdoubler). In the meantime, Emailer
still works well with 3.5MB application memory, and I understand it still
works well with OS 9.1.
