I've always thought that you had to enter the DNS-servers.
On your iBook they might have been put there by the installer your ISP gave you 
(?).
AFAIK, the 'use ppp server' is a method to get an IP-number for your mac, so 
that it can be inserted in the network.
The DNS-servers are used to translate an internet address into an IP-number 
(the IP-number of the mail-server, in this case).
Check the TCP/IP panel on your iBook, copy the numbers to your duo, and try 
again. If this doesn't work, I can't help you.
