> >> caucasian people and their values disappear from both North America and > >> Europe itself. I am far and away politically INcorrect -- a product of growing up in Northern Virginia where one learns two things: how to be southern if one is lucky and the true nature of politicians (and why the rest of the country is so determined to make sure those fools are sent far away from their home states). Now, my southern sensibilities won't allow me to call any human female anything other than "Ma'am" (or "Lass" if she's not yet become an adult) -- but to get all stirred up about titles and labels does seem a bit, um, extreme. The honorable gentleman surely was posting his views with tongue firmly planted in cheek -- lest he get something else planted there upon. However, I can't but wonder at the gentleman's meaning of the above statement. Being of the South, and having had a bit of an unfortunate run-in some years back with the rest of the country over a poor choice of economic structure (we called it slavery), we've been trying to heal our wounds and make peace with our bad decisions of the past. It's been hell for all parties involved, but we are slowly learning to get over it. You see, it was some misguided "caucasian" values that got us into the "justification" of slavery in the first place. We adopted that poorly-conceived christian-based form of social and economic structure from the very people whose "values" Mr. Coleman appreciates so well. This would be the same caucasian people responsible for the colonization (or imperial enslavement) of North American, South America, Africa and much of Asia -- or maybe that's all some historical fairy tale. I suppose I could make this a long diatribe on what my fellow "caucasian" people have managed to do to each other under the guise of religion or other self-serving excuses over the past 3000 years (and I'll even leave out that nasty little period my jewish friends refer to as the Holocaust) -- but suffice it to say that if we have an opportunity to explore other values beyond what we managed to invent in Europe and export to this soil, I'm all about that. I'm sure that was Mr. Coleman's true meaning, too. Enjoy. paul ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
