Your suspicion was right on -- according to the Apple iBook FAQ,
"Q. Does iBook use the same kind of memory as the PowerBook G4?
A. Yes. PowerBook G4 SO-DIMMs meeting the iBook requirement of 1.25 inches
can be used in iBook systems, and iBook SO-DIMMs that are PC100 compliant
can be used in PowerBook systems."
So, the PowerBook G4 memory will work for you BUT YOU NEED TO GET MEMORY
THAT WILL FIT IN THE BOTTOM SLOT OF THE POWERBOOK G4!!!
The G4 has two slots -- top and bottom. The top slot can use a 1.5"
SO-DIMM, which does not meet the iBook spec. The bottom slot module will
always work with an iBook.
In short, just make sure before you buy that you are buying a "Low Profile
512MB PC100 SO-DIMM" which is _under_ 1.25" high.
TransIntl.com has a 512 MB SO-DIMM for the PB G4
(http://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?Category=170) which they claim
is top- and bottom-slot compliant. However they don't list a height
specification. I'd send them an email ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and ask them
the height, just to be on the safe side.
Then you can have an iBook which has 640MB of RAM (which is the way to go
for OS X, if you are interested in it).
