Brandy's right on the money here.
the ibook is not a subnotebook.
for its time, the 2400c was a subnotebook and more recently the Vaio has
become the defacto subnotebook standard. Apple wasn't thinking about us
when it debuted the new ibook, which is a stunning piece and a worthy
addition to the line up.
it's just not for us, IMHO.

sadly, my hopes that Apple will debut a subnotebook are pretty much
dashed to bits at this point. given the company's pattern of keeping
their product lines svelte, i really don't see them coming out with
anything smaller than the ibook this year.

what we're likely to see come out this summer is the long-rumored
tablet-based Mac, which may or may not be the answer to a
subnotebookphile's dreams. we'll see.

as for me, i'm holding on to my 2400c until it drops, or until Apple
addresses us with something truly portable.

my two centavos.

P.S. The job in Europe fell through, so i'm back to my old stomping
grounds in the Americas. Will have to be content with dodging cabs in NY,
bombs in Cali, and the occasional errant coffee cup in Seattle.
