I did one just to have as a backup for my 280. Ran across some of the 9.6V
RC car battery packs for $7 each, bought several, popped open the Type 1 case
and swapped cells. Runs for a bit over an hour in the 280, not too bad for
$10 and some time! As the battery packs were already welded together, it
just took a bit of configuring to get the 9.6V pack to fit, and I added a row
of cells from the other pack to come up to 12V.
I use a Dremel tool to open the case (little bitty saw blade) and a steady
hand. Used to use a knife and a mallet, but the Dremel is much safer!
