Heheh...I know this--that's what's keeping me back at the moment from
reserving time at my ISP to eliminate all of the other variables to test
each workable script/modem/configuration. I have to devote a day on at least
2 identically configured 2400s to chase this, also with "a plethora of
modems". I DO believe it will take incredible hours to zero in on
speed/stability issues so delay is still the order of the day. Your comment
below mirrors what I want to better isolate.
I don't know how you can stand to be tethered to an external modem
though--admittedly internal ones can give more problems, but I've had little
problem with PC card modems and I feel EVERY little bit of extraneous bulk
on/around my 2400 (I can live with the external stuff travelling detached in
another bag). After iB2, I appreciate my Type III PC slots ever more (which,
BTW, should also be BlueTooth compatible soon).

Sounds like I'm part way along your Odyssey. Well worth the 2c!

Please point out the "blinkin' Link" that I missed reading. I quoted
everything because I DIDN'T see any such link and long experience has taught
that if you miss something and request clarification, it's best to include
the entire background so that others, coming into the thread w/o the
background info can get up to speed and help the person (in this case, me)
asking for help.

By the way, your "bedside manner" with newcomers to the list underwhelms me.
If you do not intend a civil answer, do not answer at all.
