Harry,
Can you navigate your desktop via the arrow keys on the keyboard? Or can you
select the hard drive, folders or any documents that you might have on the
desktop by typing in it's name (or even the first few letters)?
You should be able to do this even if the trackpad, mouse won't work. If you
cannot navigate or select items then it sounds like the 2300 is locking up
when it reaches the desktop (Finder).
Have you tried starting up with extensions off? There may be something in
the system causing the problem. Did you do a clean install of the system or
are you working off of the one it came with?
What OS version are you running and how is the 2300 configured (RAM, hard
drive). More details may help us find the problem.
