Ok, so they didn't steal it--steal is a strong word. However, everyone who
is getting upset that someone is trying to do this for themselves and
undermine MCE really is only seeing one side of the story.
I agree that if you wish to perform the upgrade yourself, you should be able
to get the information to do so. I also agree that if you are unable or do
not wish to, that MCE is providing a wonderful service, and as you said, I
am sure they are wonderful people to deal with.
For the record, I can easily get around and work inside any machine of any
kind easily. A processor swap or harddrive upgrade in the 2400c is a walk
in the park for me - maybe takes about 20 minutes total. Opening the
machine up and removing a wire or a capacitor to enable cardbus is equally
easy. I realize it might not be so easy for everyone (Of course, I don't
have a 2400c myself but upgrade my friends machines) but it should still be
made available for those who want to do the mod and save $100 because they
have the skills necessary to work inside of the machine.
