John - I just purchased (for $20 at a Salvation Army outlet store) a semi-working Duo
280/280c, complete with the following:

(1) an attached minidock
(2) TWO Type-2 batteries (unsure of charge status)
(3) TWO HDI-20 external floppy drives.

I'm seeking ANY info about this machine, and I thought you might be able to help me.
I may be interested in your system.

Apparently the internal hard drive is bad in the Duo 280c I got; when it starts up, it
makes funny noises as it attempts to access the HD, and then it displays the floppy
icon with a "?" in it. Using either of the 2 external floppy drives that came with it
(both of which appear to work fine), I tried to install OS 7.5.3 from floppies.
Install began OK, but it couldn't find any HD. I tried using Disk First Aid and the
Mac HD utilities from the OS 7.5.3 diskettes...but again, no hard drive can be
detected and/or mounted.

The advice I've gotten so far from a post I left at the MacWorld Forum has been: "It's
an antiquated system...just toss it." But as a devoted Apple fan (and the original
owner of Mac Plus #479 off the Apple assembly line, which still runs fine), it seems a
waste to just "toss" this machine.

Any suggestions?
