I have run into this on several Macs using various OSes. Same CC 
confusion too. Turned out to be corrupt prefs: Finder, Control Strip, 
(and/or, of course,) Apple Menu Options. Either one or another. So now 
when this happens, I just toss all three and restart. Problem goes away 
for a long time.
