Scott, et al ... If you're still out there, I could use some more advice re: getting my Duo 230 online ... I actually bought an internal modem for it so I don't have to carry anything extra while travelling ... What control panels/drivers do I need to make it work? Again, I'm running 7.6.1, but don't have *any* Remote Access, PPP or Open Transport software currently on the machine (I bought it used and it came with no system disks) Also, I'd be willing to sign up for an Earthlink account provided I can access the Net from New York City (area code 718), Oakland/San Fran, CA (510 and 415) and Missoula, Montana (not sure of area code) .. Scott, are you out there? Thanks again for the help >From: "Scott Holder" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [Duo2400] Re: Net Access on a Duo 230? It has quite a bit of memory which helps :) The Sportster modem should work just fine and dandy. It will be noticably faster than the internal 14.4, even with the slower computer. All you'd need is to use Remote Access on 7.6.1 or 8.1, or FreePPP otherwise. I'd skip any dialup software that any ISP gives you. I personally do tech support for Earthlink, so I might be biased, but I've had very little trouble with the dialup I've been using for years (I'm originally from the MindSpring side). If you decide to go with Earthlink, feel free to e-mail me off-list and I'll make sure there's a dialup number where you're going (Easiest thing would be to give me the area code and city) and help you set up the thing. The techs here are pretty Mac friendly (We are the official ISP of Apple now) but admittedly some are better than others with the older stuff. I happen to be a Mac geek and own more older Macs than PCs :) Earthlink does have software that would work on a 230, but unless you're a Mac newbie I don't see much reason to use it. Hope this helps :) Scott Holder =================================================================== EASY and FREE access to your email anywhere: http://Mailreader.com/ =================================================================== ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
