The active terminators usually (always?) have an LED
on them.

What cable was missing? From the other replies (thanks
everyone!) it sounds like maybe the missing piece was
an accident in your case.
Speaking of cables, what about the cable to connect it
to an external monitor? Did that come with it?
The reason I ask is that I just bought a used one,
supposedly complete, and it doesn't have these
things...
