ATM often needs to be updated on new systems like other extensions,

CC8 is, IMO, a great piece of software--one of the all-time Mac greats. But
it does not (and was not intended to) do its job AUTOMATICALLY. You must
define, MANUALLY test for and isolate your conflict(s), often via 8-10-20
restarts. Sometimes more than one conflict is involved.

Definitely! OS 9.1 is OK, much better than previous versions of 9, but 8.6
continues to be superior on 2400s. I cannot overemphasize the value of
partitioning or being able to boot from and test from HDs other than your
primary drive. Also OS9 requires updates to many pieces of software. Check
Macfixit, Macintouch, MacResource etc. for OS9 conflict reports.
