This is a wild shot but I had a problem with initializing a hard drive and
installing the OS not too long ago. Turns out it had some bad RAM. I swapped
out the memory module and it was business as usual. This was on a PB5300
though (which is PPC & IDE) but memory problems can do weird things.
Perhaps after the jolt the memory has become slightly unseated. Try
reseating it or even removing it temporarily (although OS8 on up won't run o
the 4MB onboard).
Just a shot.
