Hello everyone. I've been lurking since I recently acquired my first duo, a 230. My wife is going to seminary and wanted (most importantly) a lightweight word processing computer and it seems this pretty much fit the bill. Since it was given to me I got up the courage to tear into it and look around. I downloaded the instructions off another site that gave detailed directions which I followed. I now have some confidence that I can do it again for upgrades. In fact I liked the little 230 so much I also bought on ebay a 2300. I have several questions though. 1. The directions I downloaded were for the ball 200 series. I've seen on ebay several folks that have cracked open the 2300s only to damage the cable for the track pad. It looks like the track pad is on the upper case. Is there a trick to removing the upper case and not damage the track pad and ribbon cable? 2. I upgraded the system software on the 230 to 7.5.5. Now when I put the duo in the dock, and attempt to power up, the dock ejects the powerbook without powering up. What's going here? It worked fine with 7.5. 3. Mine came with an external Apple cd drive. On all my other Powerbooks, if I hold down the c key when powering up, it will boot from a system cd. I thought that with an apple drive, the 230 would do this too. Am I wrong? Is there a different key combination? 4. The apple cd scsi cable has a real short adapter on the end that hooks to the cd drive. I'd say it's only an inch in width. It looks like it has a female on one side and a male on the other. It doesn't look like I really need it just to make the connections. What's that for? Is it pass through terminator? The terminators that I've alway seen plug into the other scsi port on the device. 5. My wife has a palm m100. I thought I'd install the palm software. When I first tried to install it, it said it requires 7.5.3, which was the reason I upgraded the system software. But after I installed it, it wouldn't start. Has anybody had any luck getting it to run? 6. I also installed Mac Link 10 Deluxe, but I get error messages when I try to run it. Don't know what the cause is. Anybody have any idea? 7. My wife is used to Clarisworks and I bought Clarisworks 3 serveral years ago and so I decided to put it on the machine. The first 3 disks installed just fine, but it appears that the 4th disk is damaged. The help files were on this disk, so I did a custom install. I got most everything I needed, except one other thing that was on the 4th disk was the Xtnd files. I can't remember what that's for, anybody remember? Does it have something to do with translations to other formats? I'm suspecting that is the case because when I tried to save a simple file I created with Clarisworks, the only format I had was Appleworks 3, that's it. Can I use the xtnd files from a newer version of Clarisworks? If not, and if they're essential, anyone care to attach them to an email back to me? Thanks for all the help in advance.
