I was one of the unfortunates who did this, and ended up having to buy a whole new trackpad assembly as no one had just the cable for sale. The trick is to avoid lifting the case at all until you've unplugged the trackpad, which you can do just from removing the keyboard. Once it's unplugged, you should be in the clear (so long as you don't catch the connector on anything). > 2. I upgraded the system software on the 230 to 7.5.5. My 230 works fine with a dock running OS 8.1. Just make sure the Powerbook is completely turned off, and not asleep, as it won't work in the dock with it asleep. > 3. It should work... if all else fails, you can let it boot, insert the disc, and then choose it in the Startup Disk CPL. I've had similar trouble with lots of older 68k machines, it's possible that since CDROMs weren't common, that it might not boot. > 4. I believe the Xtnd files are indeed for the translations. I only have Clarisworks 2 and 5(Appleworks, but the same thing) or else I'd send a smi of the disk. I suppose you could try it from a later version, though I don't have access to the ones from 5 here. There are some programs that can attempt to repair floppy disks, and if the damage is in the help files, then you may be able to get it. Also, there are ways to extact files from install files (TomeViewer, among others) so you might be able to get them out another way. > Thanks for all the help in advance.
